You see, by having lots of lovers, I avoided being fully present for any of them.  This arrangement protected me from the possibility of getting hurt because I never really opened my heart to any of them.  By staying constantly busy with my work and with women, I avoided addressing my emptiness and fears, and didn’t take the time to figure out what I really wanted.  My carefree life was a complex distraction protecting me from my deep loneliness.  The more my reputation grew as a Romeo, the more women appeared in my life, while the dysfunction I witnessed in my friends marriages encouraged me to continue along my path of total freedom and abandonment to pleasure.

Even though my initial enthusiasm for this lifestyle was great, over the years, it took it’s toll on my spirit.  Eventually, the thrills wore thin, leaving me exactly where I started—empty, afraid and lonely.  However, by then, no amount of women or work could distract me from its ominous presence.

Fortunately, it was at about that time that I first met and fell in love with Theresa.  Although I knew she was the one for me the instant I saw her, it took me a few years to drop my fears and my defenses, and fully open my heart to this incredible woman.  I would not trade my current life with only her for my former life with lots of lovers.  I have discovered that to have the type of relationship I truly want, I only need one woman; the one that I love with all of my heart and soul, and who is capable of offering me her open-hearted love in return.  This woman has become my most valued treasure in life.  With her, life has become a spiritual journey of two souls and love has become the guiding light in my life.  Our masculine and feminine polarity continues to fuse into powerful explosions of light causing our consciousness to expand.  Through this relationship, the beauty of our world has been revealed to me, my heart is more open, my path has become clear, and I can now relax into being fully present to her, to my self and to life.

For all of these reasons, and many more that go beyond the scope of today’s blog, I believe in conscious monogamy.  I have traveled both roads with much enthusiasm and only wish I had found Theresa sooner.

Life force energy existed before anything in our physical world came to be.

It goes by many names and has many expressions.

In China, the Taoists call it Qi, (often spelled Chi), as in Qigong, which is what I am doing on the beach.

They charted the movement of Qi through the body and discovered its effects over five thousand years ago.

The energy is called Ki in Japan, and it is from this word that the healing art of Reiki is named.

It is called Prana in India, Mana in Polynesia, and Gi in Korea.

In these languages, the actual word for life force energy (chi, prana, mana, ki, gi) translates to breath.

Just like the breath that nourishes and sustains our physical lives, the breath also connects us to the One Source; to God.

In the mystical wisdom of Kabbalah, this vital energy is simply called Light, referring to both the light that is God and the light (life force) that is within us.

An important and powerful expression of life force is our sexual energy, which can be raw and wild, or refined and directed, depending on the awareness we have and our skill in working with the energy.

The quality of our life force, and the ability to cultivate, harness and express it, has a direct influence on our lives and our relationships, effecting our physical, emotional and spiritual health and vitality.

Making love and practicing Qigong are excellent activities that will raise the frequency (vibration) of this vital energy, and they’re fun too!

When our life force energy is abundant, clear and flowing, it is easier to feel healthy, happy and harmonized, which is definitely how I like to be!

Despite our traditional backgrounds, we do not belong to any particular church or religion; however, our spiritual lives are very important to us.

The sum of our life experiences, influenced by the many religions and spiritual traditions we’ve studied and practiced, has cultivated in us a profound appreciation for and a knowingness of The Divine, unbound by any specific dogma or doctrine.

For us, God is NOT the stern old man depicted in the Christian Bible  but a positive, loving and supportive masculine/feminine spirit that resides within each of us, allowing us personal choice and free will to experience all that life offers… including the consequences of our thoughts and actions.

This is not a distant, unknowable, untouchable force dwelling in a far-off dimension and orchestrating people’s lives and fortunes.

Our God is NOT found inside the walls of a church or temple, or in the ancient pages of religious texts, but is everywhere and in everyone and everything.

In the blossom of a flower, in the forests, oceans, mountains and lakes of the world. Within every grain of sand and in every leaf of every tree.

It does not have “chosen ones” but treats all people equally; regardless of their history, culture, religion, sex, or sexual orientation.

And, our God is present in our lovemaking, expressing Itself as Pure Love and Light.

Currently, the only church we attend is our Church of Love.

We decided to share this personal information with you to provide a framework for connecting our histories with our present passion for sharing the knowledge of how to use our sexual essence to connect with Divine Love so that we can heal and enliven our selves, each other, and our planet.

Fortunately, the relationship I have with Challis, and with my sons, are wonderful, and my health is good; the three things I value most! It’s just that… my career as a writer and educator seems to be in a holding pattern and, not only am I confused about how to proceed, I’m sure not sure if I want to. I can definitely sense a big change happening; within me and around me, which I suspect has something to do with my impending 50th birthday in 2012. (It’s funny how those “big” birthdays mess with our heads.)

Now, please don’t worry about me. I’ve been in this place before and I know I’ll eventually be fine. I do accept change as a natural and exciting part of life, it’s just the transitioning phase I’m uncomfortable with. Patience is a virtue I have little of but attempt to practice.

Maybe you can relate to what I’m going through and maybe you already know how powerful our thoughts and attitudes are, but because I needed a good reminder, I made a short videoblog for myself… and then… decided to share it with you. It has beautiful ocean footage and great music to accompany it, but make sure you listen carefully to the words. I hope they are as helpful to you as they are to me. We must never underestimate the power of our consciousness!

We are not victims of the world we perceive when we realize that it is a reflection of our own thoughts and attitudes about people and events that cause us to react—positively or negatively.

This is a challenging but empowering truth.

What we think—we are. What we focus on—manifests. Our many thoughts, desires, and memories create ripples in the ocean of consciousness, influencing our life and contributing to our reality.

At every moment we get to choose what we want to experience. For example; love or fear, peace or conflict, prosperity or lack. Since our thoughts directly affect our lives, they can either support our growth, thereby raising and expanding our consciousness or they can contribute to keeping us feeling inadequate and unhappy.

Although it’s not easy, we all have the power to change our thoughts and attitudes to better reflect what we truly want for ourselves and for our world.

Just remember, it all starts with the person in the mirror.

On an intellectual level, we can all recognize that no body is perfect and no two bodies are alike. But with the media constantly portraying images of people with “perfect” bodies and faces, it is very easy for both men and women to judge themselves harshly. Negative judgments and comparisons can erode our self-esteem and can inhibit our ability to give and receive love.

Why do we always seem to be our own worse critic?

One of my male friends recently said, “I get so frustrated with how self-critical most women are. They judge themselves for things that fly under my and most men’s radar. I really wish women would understand that attitude and self-confidence are extremely sexy and much more important than bodily perfection.”

In the cosmology of Hindu Tantra, the universal masculine and feminine qualities and their harmonic relationship to one another are revealed and represented in the divine union of Shiva and Shakti, two fundamental, complementary and universal forces (or aspects) of The One.  Shiva is yang, representing the masculine principle, while Shakti is yin, embodying the feminine.  Through these two sublime energies and their cosmic dance with each other, the entire universe unfolds eternally.  In this spiritual tradition:
